  • Payment data: handled by our payment providers (mobile money, card, PayPal). Geno does not store your card numbers.

Your health data, with extra protection

Health data is only collected with your explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time in the app.

It is encrypted, stored separately from the rest of your profile and accessible to a small number of authorised people.

It is never visible to another member without your consent: they must send an access request, which you accept or decline case by case.

It is never sold or used for advertising.

Why we use your data

  • To create and manage your account, and verify your identity.
  • To calculate your emotional, social and medical compatibility and suggest profiles, including the “Daily match”.
  • To let members talk to each other and send you notifications.
  • To keep the community safe: moderation, fighting fake profiles and scams.
  • To manage subscriptions and payments.
  • To send you awareness content and Geno news, if you agree.

Legal bases

Depending on the case: performance of our contract (running the service), your consent (health data, communications), our legitimate interest (security and service improvement) and compliance with our legal obligations.

Geno applies Togolese law on the protection of personal data and, for members located in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Who we share your data with

  • Other members, only for the profile information you make visible.
  • Partner laboratories and moderators, only to verify the medical documents you submit.
  • Our technical providers (hosting, notifications, payment), bound by contract and confidentiality.
  • Authorities, when required by law.

How long we keep it

Your data is kept while your account is active. After the account is deleted, it is erased within [30] days, unless the law requires us to keep it.

Identity verification documents are deleted once verification is complete, within [30] days at most.

How we protect it

Encryption in transit and at rest, separation of medical data, access control, logging and regular security testing.

Your rights

  • Access your data and get a copy.
  • Correct or complete it.
  • Delete it, or delete your account.
  • Withdraw your consent, especially for your health data.
  • Object to some processing or ask for it to be restricted.
  • Get your data back in a readable format (portability).

To exercise these rights, write to privacy@geno.africa. You can also contact the data protection authority in your country.
